About:

Maybe it’s the reluctant contrarian in me, but I’m of the mind that if a belief is widely accepted as knowledge there is often more to the story. It is with that posture that I invite you to join me on my tire-kicking journey of feminism.

Femininity VS. Feminism

I’m Mills and I’ve been writing about women since 2017. Originally on singleness and dating but as I’ve lived and continued writing and researching it has grown to be much more than that. It’s now about the conflict between femininity and feminism. I am a firm believer that a woman in her feminine frame is so much more at peace,  influential,  and delightful, than a woman operating in the masculine.

Over the past six months I’ve been earnestly writing about femininity. This Substack is the start of me sharing what I’ve been working on and opening up the dialogue to invite participation - both from women and men. This writing has been as much for me as it is for every woman who feels at odds with the current system of gender roles and prescribed identity/behavior. I’ve seen so many women get to a place in their late 20s, 30s or 40s of immense career success coupled with life disillusionment. Many feel they’ve been lied to. No one likes merely being told they’ve been duped - instead I would like to share my story and also invite other based ladies to share theirs as well.

As a private person it is with reluctance that I share so much of my personal perspective and experience but this writing project isn’t meant to be a tell all for my personal life. There will be references and anecdotes from my real life but I will change names/alter details to protect anyone else involved as well as my own privacy. I am striving with sincerity to outline my own personal struggle with my identity as a woman in the hopes that at least one person is encouraged. My eventual goal is to build a place for conversation that can promote learning and encouragement for others at varying stages of life and discovery/mastery.

This discourse is not an attempt to be offensive or judgemental but rather to be a resource and alternative voice from the mainstream way the world is presented to most women in 2023. I am incredibly pro-woman. And my pro-woman beliefs are not intended to be trans-phobic or bigoted but I do not consider operationally achieved womanhood to be the same as being a born woman. My words and thoughts are in no way an extension of my employer and I am speaking for myself only.

This is the conversation I’ve searched for, asked people for, and wished existed. And maybe someone else was supposed to start this but chickened out and it somehow fell on me instead. I’m not sure as to the details of how I wound up with this assignment but I can assure you I’ve been softening toward this task for YEARS. If you know of other places where this conversation is happening - I would LOVE to hear about it!

This is going to be a journey - and I invite you to join me for the ride.

One of my most frequently cited quote to myself is:

“A smart man makes a mistake, learns from it, and never makes that mistake again. But a wise man finds a smart man and learns from him how to avoid the mistake altogether.

Roy H. Williams

Last note: while my personal faith is deeply foundational to me in my worldview and life, my intention is not to preach in my writing. I will share my faith when relevant but I sincerely hope that even if we don’t share the same view of God we can still find common ground in the pursuit of truth as it pertains to femininity.

She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

Proverbs 31:26 KJV

Here’s to wisdom.
